Having done several real estate transactions over the years, both commercial and residential, I am always amazed at how insensitive, lazy, incompetent and inefficient members of the real estate profession are…I am talking about the Realtors, Inspectors, Appraisers, Mortgage Brokers, Institutional Lenders, Title Agencies, Attorneys and their respective staff people. For every transaction I have gone into, it always seems as if someone from one of those categories above is doing it for the first time and they are don’t give a damn that you have alot of time, money and energy on the line. This explains the stress that we all feel as a buyer or seller throughout the entire process all the way through closing.

Gee, when are we going to close??? Why does there have to so much stress and drama leading up to and at the closing table? Well, first of all, you have to deal with highly competent professionals who are customer service-oriented, and you have to pay attention to the details in the paperwork. Don’t take for granted that these professionals know what they are doing and are operating in your best interest! I digress…So much for my rant….

Well, when I meet highly competent and attentive professionals, I sit up and take notice because they are so rare! At 2 recent closings, I had a great closing experience with a Title Attorney, Alan Engel, who also runs Aegis Title in Maryland. He handled a 9-month nightmare to get a loan closed and was helpful and reassuring through the process. I got an extra benefit from his expertise and knowledge above and beyond title work where he saved my almost $7,000 – because he cared about me and was looking out for my best interest.

Here in New Jersey I also had the good fortune of meeting a another gentleman from Maer Title to do another closing and he also offered a great closing experience. I recognize that not too many people are savvy about what a Title Company does and how critical they are to ALL real estate transactions so when I was blown away by the service that Maer Title offered, I had to stop and take note. I had an opportunity to speak with Deverton Gilphilin who represents Maer Title here in New Jersey. I hope this audio below will give you some insight into what a Title company does and how important it is to find one that will pay close attention to you and your financial interests…all the way to that last signature on the documents.

Enjoy and tell me what you think. I am curious to hear your comments and experiences with any Title Companies you have dealt with.
